Beals Island is situated in the eastern most county of the Gulf of Maine. The island is located in the coldest, most pristine waters and is one of the last fully functioning fishing communities on the coast. With a population of more than 600 residents, a large percent of the employment is in the fisheries. Harvesting the seafood locally has made fishing a thriving industry on Beals since the 1850’s. The Beals area is also known for boat building.
